Wingecarribee Shire Council has a new partnership with the New South Wales Police Force to enhance the protection of valuable bushland reserves throughout the shire from illegal activity.

NSW Police trail bike patrols have commenced and will continue during weekends and weekdays throughout the year.

Council manages a significant network of over 3,000 hectares of community and Crown
land across 30+ reserves, including renowned sites like Greater Mount Alexandra Reserve, Mount Gibraltar Heritage Reserve, and Gibbergunyah Reserve.

These reserves play a crucial role in conserving biodiversity and providing habitat for threatened species such as koalas, greater gliders, and glossy-black cockatoos.

Visitors to these reserves and facilities must comply with the entry signs as remote
supervision, which show, through words and pictures, what is allowable, and what is not permitted.

A Council spokesperson said, “We have a responsibility to protect our bushland reserves from misuse and vandalism, which includes pollution, damage to boundary protection, erosion from four-wheel driving and trail bike riding, tree felling and firewood collection, off leash dogs, roaming cats and harm to native plants and animals.”

Council asks that the community and visitors alike, enjoy these natural assets as they
were intended but abide by the rules displayed at the entrances to the reserves.
