Youth Week in the Shoalhaven is about to step up a gear with two major events on offer for young people across the city.

In partnership with Council, Firefly Bay and Basin will host a Bike Blast at Sanctuary Point while Headspace Nowra will host a Youth Market in Nowra during April.  Both events have been organised in collaboration with local young people.

“Youth Week is all about celebrating our young people, recognising their talents and acknowledging their positive impact our community,” said Mayor Patricia White.

“These events present a fantastic opportunity for local youths to get out and about, connect with their peers and engage in an array of fun and stimulating activities,” Cr White said.

“I’d like to thank our partners for their collaboration and support in organising these unique events with young people and for young people to enjoy here in their hometown,” she said.

The Bike Blast event will include a mountain bike riding workshop run by South Coast United Bike Riders (SCUM) for beginners and a time trial, for participants to put their new skills to the test. There will also be a free barbecue and drinks on the day.

At the Youth Market event, attendees can take part in a skate workshop run by Totem Skate, enjoy live music by local young artists, a free barbecue, visit an art and chill space or shop at local market stalls.

These free events will be held at the following dates and locations;

  • Bike Blast – Wednesday 9 April from 3:05pm-5pm at the Sanctuary Point Skate Park. Bookings are essential and can be made via the Humanitix website.
  • Youth Market – Thursday 17 April from 11am-3pm at Harry Sawkins Park, Graham Street, Nowra.

These events are funded by the NSW Government as part of NSW Youth Week, which will run from 9-17 April 2025. The annual celebration provides an opportunity for young people between the age of 12-24 to come together in their local communities.

This year’s theme aims to celebrate and recognise the individual and collective power of young people as current and future influencers, leaders and decision makers.

This year, young people are encouraged to reflect on the theme by considering their individual skills, best qualities and what they are most proud of.
